The project is designed to advance the study of the history of democracy, human rights and the rule of law in the context of the Global South. The partnership between the two institutions is to be developed and expanded through a series of activities over the next two years, with a view to forming a long-term association
The partnership will include academic exchanges between the two institutions, workshops, conferences and networks. Together, the two partner institutions will develop and distribute teaching materials about the history of democracy in the Global South. The project will also include a publication series entitled “Global South Perspectives”, which will be jointly published by IEG and GIGA.
The GIGA will be represented in this partnership by the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies, the GIGA Institute of Middle East Studies, the GIGA Institute of African Affairs, the GIGA Institute of Latin American Studies and the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies.
The Indo-German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the largest and most important academic organisation in Europe. DAAD supports academic institutions in developing countries through a wide range of activities, including academic exchanges and scholarships, conferences and research projects.
