Overview

Interested in taking IELTS?Let’s have an overview of the test.IELTS is offered up to four times a month in more than 125 countries. Tests are usually on Saturdays or Thursdays. You can book your test date basing on the availability of seats.

  • The IELTS test assesses your abilities in all four skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – in under three hours.
  • All test takers take the same Listening and Speaking tests but different Reading and Writing tests. The distinction between IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training lies in the subject matter of the Reading and Writing components.
  • IELTS is available in two test formats: Academic or General Training. There are four parts – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
  • Listening, Reading and Writing must be completed on the same day, with no breaks in between them. The order in which these tests are taken may vary.
  • The Speaking test will either be after a break on the same day as the other three tests, or up to a week before or after the other tests. This will depend on your test centre.
  • You will receive IELTS scores based on each for the four skills on a scale of 1 – 9, and you will also be awarded an overall band score. You can score whole (e.g., 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half (e.g., 5.5., 6.5, 7.5) bands in each part of the test.

Format of the Exam

Candidates are tested in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking Modules. There is a choice between Academic and General Training in the Reading and Writing Modules.

Validity

  • The IELTS examination is held twice a month.
  • The individual module's Band score is considered as per the requirement. The Band score obtained is valid up to two years. While obtaining admission to an educational institute, the latest IELTS score is considered.
  • IELTS is not recommended for candidate under the age of 16.
  • In India, the fee is Rs. 10,800/- Payable at the time of registration.
  • You can pay INR by means of a Nationalized bank draft payable to the British Council.
